President Tinubu Donates His Salaries to New Welfare Fund for Armed Forces Personnel
In a move aimed at supporting Nigeria’s military, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of a dedicated welfare fund for members of the Armed Forces, including those wounded in the line of duty and the families of fallen soldiers.
The announcement came on Sunday, coinciding with the President’s 74th birthday. According to Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu has pledged all his salaries since taking office as seed funding for the initiative, underlining his commitment to ensuring that military personnel and their families are properly cared for.
Bayo Onanuga explained that the President has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to set up a special account to manage the fund. It will provide targeted support to injured service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of those who died in service.
The Special Adviser said President Tinubu has also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, friends, and well-wishers to support the initiative, adding that detailed information about the fund will be made available soon.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Bayo Onanuga noted that the President considers supporting the Armed Forces and their families not as charity but as a national duty, emphasizing that those who risk their lives for the nation deserve dignity, care, and sustained support.
The fund represents a major step toward recognizing the sacrifices of Nigeria’s military personnel and providing tangible assistance to those who have borne the cost of defending the country.
